Wendy Williams’ estranged husband, Kevin Hunter, was accused of poisoning her, according to TMZ.
The outlet reported that police investigated the claim and took a visit to the former couple’s home for a welfare check. The police report showed that someone who worked for Williams’ production company made a call in January claiming that Hunter was giving the talk show host something harmful to her health.
The report said that Hunter was hesitant to let the two officers in when they arrived at Williams’ New Jersey residence. He explained that Williams was sick and recovering from recent health issues.
The officers found Williams in bed “with the blanket covering from head to toe,” according to the documents. Hunter did not want to leave his wife alone with the authorities but eventually did so. They asked if there was truth to Hunter poisoning her once he left the room.
Williams told the officers that she was recovering from a broken shoulder and replied, “Well, I’m very popular.” After the officer repeated the question, Williams became tearful but denied the allegations and expressed that she was fine.
“As Wendy Williams Hunter previously shared, she fractured her shoulder and has been on the mend. Over the past few days, Wendy has experienced complications regarding her Graves’ Disease that will require treatment,” a January statement from The Wendy Williams Show read. “Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being.”
Williams filed for divorce from Hunter earlier this month after nearly 22 years of marriage. The two share 18-year-old son Kevin Jr. together.
