Tyra Banks Comes Out of Retirement to Cover Sports Illustrated Swimsuit

Tyra Banks

She’s back! Tyra Banks returned to the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit more than 20 years after making history. Banks was the first black woman to be put on cover of the magazine alone in 1997.

Banks made her comeback specifically for this shoot photographed by Laretta Houston in Great Exuma, Bahamas. The 45-year-old looked amazing in a yellow Andi Bagus string bikini.

“My first one was 23 years ago, how crazy is that,” Banks said on Good Morning America where she revealed her new cover. “I’m like damn — I’m 45 dog!”

Banks also took to Twitter to encourage people to love their bodies regardless of their age. She tweeted a photo of her magazine cover and wrote, “This is for everybody that has been told that they are not good enough because of their body, their age, their everything. #BanX is here to tell you that you ARE friggin’ fierce no matter what anybody says! Drop mic now! @SI_Swimsuit 2019.”
