A Possible Pathway to Protection Against the Coronavirus?

NAD

We are now a few months into the coronavirus pandemic and, of course, everyone is looking for answers. What exactly is causing the virus? We’re all craving insight on how the virus works and what can possibly be done to help fend it off. New breakthrough, preclinical research from ChromaDex Scientific Advisor Dr. Charles Brenner, and a team of leading scientists from three U.S. universities, may hold the answer.

ChromaDex is a global scientific authority on nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NAD is inside each of the trillions of cells in our bodies and supports our energy and repair system. Dr. Brenner tells The Daily Buzz the preclinical study found that coronavirus infection stresses cells and depletes cellular NAD levels, more than three-fold. The research highlights the important role of NAD in cells’ innate immune response and suggests that increasing cells’ levels of NAD may help support cellular defense in the face of immune stress caused by viruses, like coronavirus.

While research is ongoing, early data suggests that an NAD precursor supplement like nicotinamide riboside (NR) can replenish NAD levels in the face of a viral infection.
