Matt Lauer will not receive a payout for the rest of his million-dollar contract, an NBC News spokesperson confirmed to ABC News.
Because Lauer was terminated “for cause,” NBC won’t have to pay out the rest of his reportedly $20 million-per-year deal. Lauer’s contract runs through 2018.
Lauer’s last day as a salaried employee was on Tuesday. On November 29, his shocked Today colleague Savannah Guthrie announced on air that Lauer had been fired because of “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace,” per a memo from NBC chief Andy Lack.
