Just days after his appearance at Super Bowl LIV, Joe Gibbs induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, and on the heels of his team winning its 5th NASCAR Championship, Gibbs spoke with us in an exclusive interview at his racing shop in North Carolina.
“It was a thrill for me to be inducted and you never picture yourself in that group,” said Gibbs. “I think about all the coaches and players that have come before me in the NFL.”
“Coach Landry to me is someone I truly admired and then to walk out onto the field and have to coach against him was something else,” said Gibbs. “He was my hero growing up.”
As former Head Coach of the Washington Redskins, Joe Gibbs won three Super Bowls with three different quarterbacks. He’s a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and was just named as one of only 10 coaches to the NFL 100 All-Time Team. And, just a few days ago, he was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, making him the only major sports player or coach in the modern era to be named to two major sports halls of fame.
“On the NASCAR side, the sponsors are with you and play key roles and are part of the race. Our founding sponsors, Interstate Batteries have been in a relationship for 30 years and are a part of our family.” said Gibbs.
“The only thing that unites Washington, D.C. is that team (the Redskins) and they are the best fans in the most powerful cities.”
