Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Welcome Baby Boy

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, gave birth to a baby boy on Monday her first child with Prince Harry.

The name Archie has multiple meanings. In Scotland, it means “true and bold,” while in Germany, it means “truly brave.” The newborn’s middle name, Harrison, is of English descent and means “son of Harry.” The moniker is also a tribute to the 34-year-old duke’s late mother, Princess Diana, as one of her ancestors was Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll, from Scotland.

“The duchess went into labor early Monday morning with Harry at her side, the palace announced on Monday afternoon local time. We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”

Harry was with his wife when she gave birth. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces.

“It was amazing,” Harry said.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news,” Buckingham Palace said. “The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage.”

The child will be seventh in line to the throne, following Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince Harry.

Prior to the birth, few details of the couple’s plans were released. Last month, Kensington Palace said that the birth would be revealed only once the Harry and Meghan had the opportunity to celebrate privately. Unlike Harry’s brother Prince William, they didn’t share where the baby would be born.
