Tyler Perry announced on Monday in an interview with Sirius XM that he will be saying goodbye to his “Madea” character in 2019.
“It’s time for me to kill that old b—,” Perry joked. “I’m tired, man.”
Perry and all of the originals will be going on a farewell tour around the country. “I’m doing one last tour in 2019-the farewell tour, and the last movie is Madea’s Funeral that I shot 2 years ago,” Perry said.
“We’re going to say goodbye in ’19,” Perry said. “I just don’t want to be her age playing her.”
When asked if he would ever do Broadway, he said, “My thing with Broadway is that you got to do the exact same thing every night, the exact same way. That wouldn’t work for me. I’d piss off all the producers. I’d be like, look, we’ve got to do something different.”
Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral hits theaters on March 1, 2019.
