John Mayer has been granted a temporary restraining order against an obsessed fan.
According to court documents obtained by E! News, the singer received multiple threats from 39-year-old Ryan Jeremy Knight.
Knight reportedly began harassing Mayer in March but then began making threats to his team via social media. According to the docs, the harrassment has caused Mayer to “suffer substantial emotional duress.”
Knight allegedly told Mayer, “I’ve put many a jew in the hospital.” Mayer’s father is Jewish. Knight also referenced famed murderers like Ted Bundy and Mark David Chapman.
The scary fan escalated things by showing up at Mayer’s performance in North Carolina on June 28. Fortunately, the musician’s security team found Knight and escorted him off the premises.
A judge ordered that Knight must stay 100 feet away from the singer and his home. A follow-up court hearing is scheduled for August 27 to determine if the restraining order should be made permanent.
Mayer is currently on a worldwide tour ending in October.
