Iggy Azalea knew her close friend Demi Lovato relapsed way before she released her new song, “Sober.”
The Australian rapper who got her big break after the song “Fancy” released back in 2014, stopped by ET’s Burbank studios on Tuesday to talk about her new EP, Survive the Summer, and Lovato’s relapse announcement.
After Lovato released “Sober” Azalea took to Twitter to praise her long time friend.
“I had known about it, as a close friend,” Azalea, 28, revealed. “So I had really wanted for her to be the one to tell people that. And I worried a lot, as her friend, that something was going to leak or somebody would somehow take that and use it negatively against her, or to make her seem like she’s got a secret.”
The “Cool for the Summer” singer announced she’d broken her sobriety last month, while on her Tell Me You Love Me world tour earlier in this year.
A separate source told ET that “Demi relapsed and started drinking alcohol again.” “Her song is intense, but that’s how she deals,” the source explained. “She has to be brutally honest and put it out there so that she’s not burdened with holding on to her struggles privately.”
The duo will reunite at the California Mid-State Fair on July 22, where they both will be performing.
