The ‘FreshPrince of Bel-Air’ is coming back, but not as you remember it!
Will Smith is producing a dramatic remake based on this gritty trailer, born and raised by filmmaker Morgan Cooper, that went viral last year for re-imagining the series in modern times.
A Universal Television rep said, ‘Bel-Air’ is a “dramatic retelling of the beloved ’90s sitcom… that leans into the original premise of Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. With a reimagined version, ‘Bel-Air’ will dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show.”
It’s got a lot of star power behind it! In addition to Smith’s production company co-producing it with Universal Television, he will serve as an executive producer along with Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, original creators Andy and Susan Borowitz, Miguel Melendez and Terence Carter.
Cooper will co-write the script, direct and serve as co-executive producer.
