‘Despicable Me’ Producer Working on ‘Shrek’ Reboot

A Shrek reboot is happening! It was announced that the producer of Despicable Me, Chris Meledandri, wants to bring the beloved ogre back to life.

According to Variety, Universal Pictures has teamed up with Meledandri to recreate the popular film and its spin-off Puss in Boots. One thing Meledandri does not want to change is the voices of the characters that people loved so much, such as Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers, and Antonio Banderas.

“When you look back on those vocal performances they’re awesome, and while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterizations,” Meledandri said.

“The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it’s not simply yet another film in a series of sequels,” the producer added.

Smash Mouth responded to the news about the reboot on Twitter. @smashmouth tweeted, “What?” The band’s popular song “All Star” was in the first Shrek film.

There are no details on the release date yet, but what are your thoughts on the reboot?
