Claire Danes Turned Down The Lead Role In ‘Titanic’

Claire Danes recently revealed in an interview with Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert that she turned down the role of Rose in ‘Titanic.’

Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes starred in Romeo + Juliet in 1996, and were on their way to stardom when she was approached to star in ‘Titanic’ alongside DiCaprio. She decided to turn down the role because she didn’t think she was ready for that attention while she was still young. She went on to say that see could tell that DiCaprio was ready for such an iconic role.

“And I knew he was wrestling with the decision to do that movie or not and he just looked up at me, and he said, ‘I’m doing it. I’m doing it.’” she continued. “And I looked down on him going, ‘I totally understand why you are doing it. And I’m not ready for that.’ And I think I really wasn’t ready for it.”

Danes states that she has “no regrets” for not taking the role in 1996.
