Building Safety Month: “Safer Buildings, Safer Communities, Safer World”

building safety month

As everyone spends more time indoors, you’re probably taking the safety of your home for granted. But, you shouldn’t! Building codes not only need to be met, but regularly updated. This month, you can help make sure buildings where you live, work and play are safe and sound.

May is Building Safety Month. The international educational and interactive campaign, led by the International Code Council, is designed to raise awareness about the important roles modern building codes have in creating safer communities. The theme for the 40th anniversary of Building Safety Month is “Safer Buildings, Safer Communities, Safer World.” Code officials work day in and day out to keep the public safe. As the International Code Council works to educate the public about up-to-date safety codes and solutions that improve the safety, the organization is also highlighting different topics each week in May.

Week One:
May 1-10: Disaster Preparedness

Week Two:
May 11-17: Water Safety

Week Three:
May 18-24: Resiliency. Sustainability. Innovation

Week Four:
May 25-31: Training the Next Generation
