There’s no secret that Beyoncé has been completely revolutionary in the music industry for the last decade, but she continues to chart new territory.
As recently reported, Anna Wintour, Vogue magazine’s editor-in-chief, gave Beyoncé full control over her upcoming September issue. This is quite breaking news considering that, in the past, Wintour has always exerted complete control over the magazine publications. From making the call on which outfit the subject would wear, to which photos would even make the cut.
However, much of the controversy revolves around Beyoncé hiring Tyler Mitchell, a 23 year old, as her photographer for the upcoming issue. This will make the first time in 126 years that the cover of the publication was shot by a black photographer.
During an interview with The New York Times, Mitchell said, “I depict black people and people of color in a really real and pure way. There is an honest gaze to my photos.”
Beyonce hiring the first black photographer for her Vouge cover is legit proof that she’s not making a seat at the table- she’s building a bigger and better table
