In a recent interview with The New York Times, actor Ben Affleck recalls his biggest regret of his life to be his divorce from actress Jennifer Garner. In promoting his new movie, The Way Back, Affleck gets candid about his divorce from Garner, saying he feels shameful.
The 47 year old goes on to say, “Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing.” He then goes into his abuse of alcohol after his marriage with Garner began to fail. “I drank relatively normally for a long time,” he told the outlet. “What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart. This was 2015, 2016. My drinking, of course, created more marital problems.”
Garner and Affleck started dating in 2004 and married in 2005. They officially divorced in 2018 and share three children together – Violet, and Seraphina, and Samuel.
Affleck returns to the acting field with his new movie, The Way Back, which opens March 6.
