Great Scott! Here’s a cast reunion to take you “back.”
“Back to the Future” fans at Boston’s Fan Expo this weekend were treated to a blast from the past when a handful of the time-traveling comedy’s stars joined together for a reunion panel.
The idea has picked up steam recently, as reboots dominate the movie box office and the TV landscape.
But writer Bob Gale has shut down sequel rumors for years, and it doesn’t look like things will change anytime soon. Fox referred to Gale as a “really great gatekeeper of the franchise.”
“Basically, I think America is saying, ‘Come on, they’ve wrecked every other franchise with bad sequels, why not this one?” Wilson joked, when asked why rumors of a fourth film continue to swirl. “Come on, we would watch it until it sucks.”
Michael J. Fox was equally uninterested in the idea, though he was a little more gentle with his words. He told fans that the franchise’s co-creator, Bob Gale is “the gatekeeper” to any future projects, and he is unlikely to sign off on anything.
Still, fans are always happy to see the cast of the sci-fi classic back together. The photo-op got thousands of likes on Instagram, where Wilson, Lea Thompson and Christopher Lloyd all re-posted the group picture.
