Adam Sandler Sings Emotional Tribute to Chris Farley on SNL

Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler took this opportunity to pay tribute to his friend, the late Chris Farley, another former SNL cast member who found great success from the series.

Sandler revealed on the Dan Patrick Show that he became “really upset” when he first rehearsed the song ahead of the live show.  “They were probably thinking, ‘Oh man, you gotta stay calm. Stay calm.’ Nobody wants to see you cry like an idiot the whole song, you know?” he said.

While it may have been a long time since he was a cast member on the sketch show that gave him his start, he isn’t forgetting about the past — especially his friend and former cast member, the late Chris Farley.

As the show closed, Sandler performed a song from his recent Netflix special 100% Fresh, while the lyrics touched upon Farley’s most famous SNL characters and sketches (including “the Bumble Bee Girl” and “Van Down by the River”), while images from the skits were shown. “He was a one-man party, you know I’m talking about, I’m talking about my friend Chris Farley,” he sings.

During the emotional four and a half minute performance, Sandler shared both happy and sad memories, from drinking after the week’s show together, to seeing Farley cry in the office about his father.
